One of the most common themes in portuguese folkstories is the “enchanted Moura”, a magical being imprisoned in a specific place, guarding a treasure and/or asking travellers to free her from a spell.
I've seen quite a few books on Brazilian folklore putting the Enchanted Moura as a Brazilian legend, but the story didn't make the transition from Europe to the Americas very well. Probably because the only peoples here before the colonization were the indigenous ones, and they weren't very found of the whole burried treasure thing.
